How to Practice Time w/God

A re-write of my notes from Sunday June 14, 2009 on Biblical Meditation.

1. Set aside an uninterrupted time to meet with God.
2. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Ask God to quiet your mind.
3. Read the Word
4. Pray
5. Memorize scripture
6. Live it out.

Why do this? To conform to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29), to renew our minds (Romans 12:1-2), to set our minds on the proper things (Colossians 3:1-2), to rid ourselves of the “old self” and put on the “new self” (Colossians 3:8-10).

Why we fail? We live according to the flesh (Romans 8:5-8), we dwell on carnal things, we are too busy.

Additional Helps? Meditate on the right things (Philippians 4:8), be selective about what you watch, read, do and the time you spend on these things.

Most Important Take Home: Meditate on God’s word. Chew on it. Savor it. Devour it. Make it part of you. Live it out.

Lord, quiet my heart. Speak to me through Your word. Shine the light of Your truth into my life. I surrender myself to You and commit to do whatever You show me to do. In Jesus Name.

As a lion or a young lion growls over his prey… -Isaiah 31:4

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. –Philippians 4:8-9
